The South Asian Bar Association of North America Foundation (SABA Foundation), SABA North America, and SABA chapters across the U.S. and Canada recently announced a comprehensive effort to support immediate COVID relief for India. A devastating second wave of COVID-19 cases is deeply affecting India, leaving families and communities in desperate need of assistance. Donate today to support our campaign to help fight this deadly plague.
Today, we announce two additional groups, alongside UNICEF, will receive funds from our campaign on a pro rata basis. Those groups are:
1. Association for India’s Development is a grassroots organization that promotes sustainable development. Its work currently involves donating PPE (including surgical masks and face shields) and oxygen supplies to hospitals. They are operating all across India and are posting almost daily about the extensive updates on the ground. As with Khalsa Aid, AID works with marginalized communities throughout India, is secular (works towards promoting “sustainable, equitable and just development”) and the bios of their founders are quite impressive (and even inspired the Bollywood hit Swades). Please visit here for more information about their COVID-19 Relief efforts: https://aidindia.org/response2covid/
2. Khalsa Aid is a Sikh humanitarian organization providing support for medical programs in vulnerable communities, including procuring hundreds of oxygen concentrators. Even though Khalsa Aid has a religious affiliation, they embrace “the whole human race as one “ (Guru Gobind Singh Ji) by not discriminating in whom they help. They have been particularly recognized for providing aid to all those in need, particularly those from marginalized communities. You can find out more about their relief efforts here: https://www.khalsaaid.org/news/india-covid-relief
All individual donations that Foundation receives between May 10 and May 31, 2021 will be used to support reputable charitable organizations fighting COVID in India, of which UNICEF will be the first one. SABA Foundation along with its partners is currently in the process of vetting organizations and any additions to the charity slate will be announced publicly. All donations will go to the SABA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, and will be tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
The ongoing crisis in India requires an all-hands-on-deck approach. As South Asian American attorneys across the U.S. and Canada, the members and supporters of SABA Foundation, SABA North America, and local SABA chapters feel a special obligation to help in any way we can. Please share this information with your friends and community. Together, we can make a difference!
