Join us for our VIP Fundraising Dinner with Manjusha Kulkarni!
We’re excited to continue SABA North America Foundation's VIP Dinner series with 2022 Hero Award Winner and Benefit Keynote Speaker Manjusha Kulkarni. This year's dinner will be at Rooh - SF, a Michelin-rated restaurant with "an innovative menu that fuses the subcontinent’s myriad flavors with modern restaurant staples". Our VIP Dinner event offers a chance to engage in conversation with Manju accompanied by great food and drink. This is a separately ticketed event. Each seat is $375 and supports Foundation's efforts to ensure access to justice in the South Asian diaspora across the United States and Canada.
Manju is the Executive Director of AAPI Equity Alliance, which serves and represents the 1.5 million Asian American and Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles County. In 2020, she co-founded Stop AAPI Hate, the nation's leading aggregator of COVID-19-related hate incidents against AAPIs.
Time Magazine recognized Manju as one of the 100 Most Influential People of 2021 for her work with Stop AAPI Hate. Her work has been also been recognized by Bloomberg/Business Week and featured by numerous national and ethnic news outlets. Rooh, with additional locations in Palo Alto and New Delhi, is a progressive Indian restaurant in SoMa. Executive Chef Sujan Sarkar provides a decidedly modern take on Indian flavors while paying homage to the epicurian traditions of the subcontinent.
From the owner of Rooh: Rooh is a progressive Indian Table and Bar located in the heart of San Francisco's burgeoning SoMa district. Meaning soul or spirit, Rooh brings the spirit of India to San Francisco through the restaurant experience. Renowned Executive Chef, Sujan Sarkar, delicately balances rich traditional flavors with fresh local ingredients prepared with modern techniques. The unique cocktail list features a list inspired by ancient Ayurvedic wisdom and the six tastes, or rasa, sweet, sour, salty, pungent, astringent and bitter. A vibrant dining destination Rooh showcases the innovation of urban India for locals and visitors alike.

SABA Foundation's Grantee Roundtables Continue on March 10
Educational programming is one of the pillars of SABA Foundation’s mission. This year, we continue to focus on providing Community Based Organizations working with the South Asian diaspora with tools to better serve the community. Our Grantee Roundtables are invitation only forums where CBOs can learn from the successes of and challenges faced by peer organizations, while Learning Labs are events where the entire community can come together for information on a topic of interest.
Our first event of 2022 will be a Grantee Roundtable focused on those organizations working and collaborating in the IMMIGRATION RIGHTS, HATE CRIMES, DISCRIMINATION AND RACIAL PROFILING and COMMUNITY ACCESS TO JUSTICE space. Grantee Roundtables are exclusively for SABA Foundation Grantees and other South Asian-oriented Community Based Organizations and are not open to the general public. Instead, they are opportunities for these organizations to engage informally with peers, raise any challenges that they may be facing and to help and support one another.
The Roundtable will be facilitated by Amol Sinha , a current Foundation Champion and the Executive Director of the ACLU-NJ.
Learning Lab: Immigration Update for CBOs Helping Domestic Violence Survivors
Community-Based Organizations serving the South Asian-American diaspora often aid survivors of domestic abuse. These survivors have built lives in North America but are dependent upon their abuser for their status. Nisha Karnani, an experienced immigration attorney, will provide an update on a number of tools CBOs can use to aid survivors who wish to remain in the US and receive legal status after escaping abuse.

September President's Message
This year’s Executive Committee, Sa’adiyah Massoud (President-Elect), Ritu Singh (Treasurer), Namita Mani (Secretary) and me, has big plans for the upcoming year. For years, Foundation focused on collecting donations to make grants to community-based organizations (“CBO”) in the areas of domestic abuse, civil rights, and immigration rights. While there is great value in grant-making, the South Asian legal community can provide so much more to CBOs. Over the last year, we have expanded our activities to include valuable training through our Learning Lab series and networking and outreach through our Grantee Roundtables. Feedback from these events has been extremely positive, so for this year, we’re looking to expand our outreach and programming.
